Once upon a time security meant people guarding your home round the clock. Today, all you have to do is install a few alarms at strategic places and bingo! You can have the best security arrangement ever. A home security alarm is an excellent device well within the reach of the common man; hence, there is no reason why everybody should not have one installed to protect their homes from theft and unauthorized entry.

What you Need to Know

No thief wants to be caught. Hence, an alarm will usually be sufficient to deter any attempted entry in your house. Unless the person is a murderer who is mentally deranged and does not care about the consequences, he/she will stay away from houses which are fitted with a home security alarm.

How will the thief know that your home has one? From the signs you will put all over your home and courtyard. These signs can be compared with signs that announce ‘beware of ferocious dog’, for example. No one will be tempted to find out by entering without permission when such a board is put at the gate to your home. Similarly, signs saying ‘this house has anti-theft alarms fitted’ would also be sufficient to change any burglar’s mind.

Do not be tempted however, to put the sign and not the home security alarm. It does not take too long for anyone to get wise to this type of trick, leaving your home even more vulnerable than before. The announcement should be put only after the home security alarm has been installed and tested okay. This will be as efficient as having a Doberman tied up in front of your house. No one will even contemplate looking at it, let alone forcing entry into it.

When installing your home security alarm, ensure that all the windows are fitted with a sensor. Most forced entries do not happen through the door, but through the windows. Also make it a habit to close all the windows at night when you go to sleep. The same applies when you leave the house. Take your time and ensure that all the windows are properly latched before you turn the alarm on.

In order to have the alarm function well, ensure that the power it receives is different than the mains of the house. This will ensure that it will still function if there is a power failure or the thief manages to cut off the power supply to your home.
